Coming Out of the Fog, Election 2016

November 8, 2016

I've been struggling with my vote in this election for a while. I was raised in a Conservative Republican household. I registered as a Republican because it's what I thought I was supposed to do. I have since voted for Bush and Obama, twice. I had family and friends who were disappointed in my decision simply because it was different from theirs. But, at the end of the day, they didn't let who I voted for change their lifelong opinion of me. I'm still the same person, just with a few more liberal views.

I don't love either major party candidate and know my choices are few. Vote him, vote her, vote other, or not vote at all. And up until yesterday I wasn't planning on voting, but that's not the example I want to set for my kids. They've been very aware of this election. They've watched the debates. And although they may not understand all of it now, one day their time to vote will come. I want them to be educated and vote their conscience regardless of the pressure and bullying going on around them.

So after a lot of thought and prayer, I've cleared my head and heart and will vote my conscience today. And tomorrow, regardless of the outcome, I will still live in the greatest country in the world.
