What It Takes To Be A Better Blogger

August 1, 2018

I haven't actively blogged since January. I miss it, but haven't been able to find the time. Or, if I'm being honest, I haven't really tried to find the time. But I'm going to make a conscious effort to refocus on my blog. It's not only fun, it's also therapeutic. So in order to get motivated, I've filled a few pages of my notebook with blog topics. And I'm going to start with some tips on being a better blogger. Clearly I need to take my own advice.

Get To The Point
This is an easy way to keep readers invested. Make the focus of your blog posts clear and concise. No one likes to read through five paragraphs of rambling in order to find out you love this store or these 3 shows on Netflix. Spill it, sister!

Work With Others
Sometimes it really does take a village. Lean on other bloggers for advice. Interview another blogger. Have another blogger interview you. Swap guest posts. It could mean working with other writers who want to produce content for your blog. Or you could enlist the help of a designer to improve the overall look of your blog. Working with other people in order to better yourself and your blog is never a bad idea.

Challenge Your Outlook + Don’t Get Stuck In The Past
I started blogging in 2010. Many of you were around back then so you know how much blogging has changed. If you want to engage new readers, you've got to be willing to adapt to change. And you can easily do so without compromising who you are. Challenge yourself to follow a few new bloggers to see what they're up to.

Learn Some Technical Stuff
Blogging isn't just about providing fun and entertaining content. You also want your blog to be visually appealing and easy to read. A little HTML training can go a long way. I always enlist the help of a designer for my blog, but can do various tweaks and changes myself. I can change the color and size of fonts. I can change out my header and profile picture. I know how to add a signature to my posts. Learning a few key HTML tricks can save you both time and money.

Bring New Ideas That Interest People
People don’t want to read the same old rehashed ideas time and time again. Get creative. Think outside the box. What are you an expert at? What can you share about your life that might help someone else? You can definitely grow a wider audience with new ideas and fresh content.
